Why I Ship John x Vriska?

Now, I’m not usually a hardcore shipper when it comes to any work with a fandom, but honestly, this has to be one of my favorite pairings ever.

Because, all things considered, I feel like it works spectacularly well.

Panel 1:
I find the dynamic between the two of them—not just here, but in multiple moments—to just be really adorable. Perhaps I’m overestimating her enthusiasm, but I love how just a simple compliment like that from John can make her that happy.

Panels 2, 3 & 4:
I love these moments where Vriska’s typing quirk is played around with.  I find it hilarious how embarrassed she gets when John notices she accidentally messed it up.  You can practically hear her thinking “Sh8t, sh8t, sh8t, there’s no w8y h8’ll t8ke me s8riously now!!!!!!!!”

And in the next two panels, when John decides to play along with her quirk, again, I think it’s adorable how much pleasure Vriska gets out of that.

Panel 5:
I suppose this would be the most obvious piece of evidence, yeah?  Not much needs to be said about this.  Really, all I have to add on is that I think it’s just too cute how easily-flustered Vriska is with John; you can tell she feels kinda awkward and not 100% confident throughout the (one-sided) conversation.  Perhaps that’s only appealing for me because it’s always the same way for me when I have feelings for someone, I can really relate to that kind of awkwardness.  Nevertheless, it’s something.

Panel 6:
Not really much to this one, but the first time I read this part, I was actually rather sideswiped by Vriska calling him “hot”.  Perhaps it’s a rather minor thing, but this was one of the major moments for me that set off the start of how I feel about these two now.

Panel 7:
As if just her words alone weren’t more than enough, her ‘8”s running rampant through said words—which is a thing she does when flustered—are a dead giveaway that she’s really rather uncomfortable with the prospect of how John has to go about reviving Rose.  Directly after this is where she asks him out on a future d8.  There’s really nothing more that can be done to show that she really has grown very, very fond of John.

Aside from all the comedic moments as well, he seems to be the only one she’s able to really open her true feelings to about her regret for killing Tavros, about her Spidermom issues, and other such things.  I just feel a very deep emotional connection between the two of them.

And I suppose, on a subconscious level, a very big part of this all is also because I see a lot of myself in John; I’ve always been the dorky nice guy—at least, I think so, hah.  And for some weird reason, it tends to be the case that I find myself attracted to somewhat emotionally-messed-up girls, usually with parental issues.  I don’t get it either.  But if that’s not Vriska, I dunno what is.

So yeah.  There’s my pointless essay on the subject.  Chalk it up to boredom and inspiration from a conversation with a friend.  XP
